Why RSA Training is Important

The Responsible Service of Alcohol (RSA) Course is a MANDATORY hospitality training program that provides the fundamental knowledge and skills for those involved in the sale and service of alcohol. This program provides students with the skills to be able to perform their job within the boundaries of the law as well as being capable of dealing with situations that may present themselves as they work within this sector of the hospitality industry.

RSA training provides students with a number of benefits which include:
·        Detailing the various responsibilities and obligations that apply to people involved in the sale and service of alcohol;
·        Providing clarification and procedures to help service staff deal with particular situations including those involving intoxicated and underage patrons; and
·        Making them aware of the penalties which apply in relation to the sale and service of alcohol

Each state throughout Australia has their own Acts and Regulations which govern the service and sale of alcohol. Although these state legislations are very similar, THERE ARE DIFFERENCES. This is why it is so important to choose a course that is contextualised for the state where you are working or planning on working in. There will be differences in the working environment and staff must ensure they are aware of the compliance issues and obligations that apply to them specifically in that state.

RSA training throughout Australia provides a number of benefits to the wider community which include:
·        Providing the knowledge and teaching the skills that enable service staff to be able to fulfil their duty of care obligations that relate to their patrons;
·        Increasing the knowledge that the community possess in relation to alcohol and the effects that it has on one’s health;
·        Improving the overall health of Australia’s younger community through the control of underage drinking;
·        Improving the overall health of the community at large through the control of over-intoxication;
·        Decreasing the number of hospital cases that result from excessive drinking and other alcohol-related incidents; and
·        Reducing the negative impact that alcohol has on the community through alcohol-fuelled violence and crime.
